Pricing guide

How much does mattress removal cost?

A mattress pickup quote should identify everything being removed: mattress, box spring, bed frame and any adjustable base. A bed is not always a single disposal item.

The short answer

Angi publishes a mattress removal reference range of $75–$150. Your local quote may differ, and a box spring, frame or adjustable base should be listed separately.

Does the price include the box spring and bed frame?

Ask this before comparing offers. Write down the mattress size and quantity, then list box springs, frames, headboards and bases separately. An adjustable base can change the handling requirements substantially.

Explain whether the bed is assembled and whether the company is expected to take it apart. Photograph the complete setup, not just the top of the mattress. This helps avoid discovering extra work after the crew arrives.

Curbside versus bedroom pickup

Confirm where the quoted service starts. A curbside pickup does not necessarily include carrying a mattress down stairs. For in-home removal, explain the floor, tight hallways and available parking.

Ask about preparation requirements before moving or wrapping anything. Describe wet, heavily soiled or potentially contaminated items in advance so the company can decide whether it accepts them and what handling is needed.

Compare hauling with local disposal options

Check your municipal bulky-item program and local mattress recycling options before booking. Eligibility, accepted materials and placement rules vary. A scheduled municipal pickup may suit a flexible timeline; a private company may be more useful when you need carrying help or several items removed together.

For donation, confirm acceptance directly. Do not assume that an organization accepting furniture also accepts used mattresses. Likewise, recycling is not guaranteed merely because a mattress is collected by a junk removal company.

Questions that prevent pickup-day surprises

Ask for the total for every component and the stated pickup location. Confirm whether disposal or recycling charges are included, and whether adding another mattress changes the quote.

If you are replacing a mattress, check whether the retailer offers removal with delivery. Compare that service’s exclusions with a separate hauler, especially if the old base or frame also needs to go.

Have these details ready for your estimate

  • Mattress sizes and counts.
  • Separate counts for box springs, frames and bases.
  • Bedroom pickup or an agreed curbside location.
  • Stairs, disassembly needs and item condition.

Common questions

Is a mattress and box spring one item?

Do not assume so. List both and ask the company how they are priced. Bed frames and adjustable bases should also be identified separately.

Can I leave a mattress on the curb?

Check your municipality’s placement and collection rules first. A private pickup arrangement does not override local requirements.

Will my mattress be recycled?

Ask the company about its actual disposal destination and local recycling options. Collection alone does not establish that recycling is available.
